Some places just exude good vibes, but if they can do so even through photos it must be a home filled with positive energy. That’s exactly what we get with this charming farmhouse in Woodside. Beginning with a heartfelt story of a family buying the home from the wife’s parents, renovating it for their contemporary needs and building a separate cottage on the land for her mother after her father passed, this home was a space that was founded on great intentions, and with the help of Cecy J Interiors, was given a contemporary makeover to complete it.
After buying the wife’s childhood home and building a separate cottage for her mother, this family of five didn’t have a lot left to renovate the space. Cecily Mendell of Cecy J Interiors had to be pragmatic about where to invest and where to save to finish the remodel. The kitchen, for example, was simply given a good coat of white paint on the cabinets and inexpensive subway tile to freshen it up. The gallery wall in the living room was a collection of artwork given to them by the wife’s late father, and completed with a nautical rope mirror.
Cecily was also very practical when it came to the furnishings – two banana trees flank the entrance for a bold and put together first impression. To accommodate three children, the sofa was custom made with an outdoor fabric from Perennials that is easy to wash. To bring in a bit of style and elegance, the lighting is made up of pieces from Visual Comfort. On a side note, we’ve heard many designers say that lighting is a great way to infuse style in a home with kids, since it’s the safest furnishing option to invest in. And finally, to add texture Cecily chose woven baskets and chairs from Serena and Lily as well as a rustic bench from Restoration Hardware to go with the “farmhouse” bones. The result is a home that showcases a lot of heart and a lot of style.
